Electrocardiogram (EKG)

An Electrocardiogram is a routine, non-invasive procedure used to examine the electrical activity of your heart. An EKG can provide valuable information about your heart, such as rhythm and size of heart muscle. Your EKG provides doctors with early clues as to developing problems.

How is the test done?

Electrocardiograms are routinely performed by the Heart Clinic of Louisiana during your clinical visit. During the test a technician will place circular stickers called electrodes across your chest and on your arms. The electrodes record the electrical activity of the heart and display it on a screen. The recording is then printed out to be interpreted by the doctor seeing you in clinic.

How do I prepare for the test?

No special preparations are needed before an electrocardiogram.
